The Ursa Major Director of Quality is the strategic leader directing and managing quality across all product lines. This currently includes four major responsibilities: quality system management, quality engineering, inspection, and calibration. This role will shape the engagement of Quality within Ursa Major and with our customers. A collaborative, flexible approach to quality is required. Development programs require velocity and a rigorous adherence to customer and certification requirements will be critical. The ideal person will embrace innovation and continuous improvement as well as a passion for working cross-functionally. Close collaboration with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and business development, and digital operations. will be key to evolving quality culture and engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Act as AS9100D management representative
- Support flexible approach to quality for research and development activities
- Own and improve Quality Management System
- Own customer quality engagement, compliance, and relationships
- Manage leaders and processes in receiving inspection, in-process verification, and calibration
- Manage quality engineering, including approaches to problem-solving, in-process quality, data analysis, improvement, and containment functions
Other functions:
- Create a quality-conscious culture by coaching and influencing the rest of the organization
- Set strategic direction for the quality organization
- Support Ursa Major’s overall culture and embody the cultural values of Conviction, Cohesion, and Humility
- Hire, grow, and manage talent within the Quality team
- Review contract quality flow downs and drive necessary improvements to the QMS to ensure compliance
- Review and influence customer contracts to collaboratively work with the customer to determine realistic and achievable requirements
- Support communications with customers on quality flow downs, practices, and system
- Drive improvement in inspection capability, effectivity, and velocity
- Support flexible approach to quality for research and development activities
- Own MRB, nonconformance system, and improvement
- Drive quality engineering containment speed and problem-solving success
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality on process execution and problem resolution
- Calibration system scope and overall management
- Implement of quality control best practices at every level of the product life cycle: research, development, and production
- Report performance measures and metrics as assigned
Qualifications:
- S. in an engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, or similarly regulated industry.
- 10+ years of experience in Quality.
- 5+ years of team leadership or management.
- Experience in a hardware-focused organization.
- Experience managing a registered quality management system.
- Experience managing a structured calibration system.
- Experience addressing customer flow down requirements.
- Experience applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with advanced inspection equipment, such as CMMs.
- Experience with structured problem-solving tools and methods, such as the 8D method.
Preferred Experience:
- Lead auditor certification.
- Experience building and articulating a system vision.
- Experience managing an AS9100D quality management system.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Experience addressing problems at suppliers.
- Experience with additive manufacturing, machining, avionics, or aerospace hydraulic assemblies
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $190,000 - $240,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
