As a member of the Advanced Manufacturing & Materials team, you will operate laser powder bed fusion machines and related equipment to propulsion components for Ursa Major’s products. This role demands high attention to detail, a hands-on self-starter mentality, and a desire to grow & contribute to Ursa’s mission in a small team environment. Your contributions will enable the future of advanced manufacturing for rocket propulsion systems. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Operate and maintain laser powder bed fusion and other machine tools 
  • Operate and program machines including: Wire EDM, unpacking station, sieve, bead blast station 
  • Planning - Ability to organize and plan builds based on program priority and help contribute to a master schedule
  • Material handling - Prepare outgoing shipments and coordinate delivery for incoming orders
  • Ensure machine changeovers are completed with high quality and according to standard operating procedures 
  • Handle metal powder recycling equipment (conveyers, sieves) and maintain powder quality throughout lifecycle 
  • Perform post-processing activities such as powder removal, support removal, part cut off, and part finishing including hands-on metal deburring
  • Systematically identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machine or process issues that arise in a complex manufacturing environment
  • Complete preventative maintenance activities and work with OEMs to schedule necessary service
  • Maintain machine maintenance spares and all related consumables

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience in a trade skill including but not limited to machining, inspection, mechanic, welding, etc. 
  • Demonstrated hands on ability by completing a project to build/rebuild complex machinery or mechanical system. Examples include rebuilding an engine, repairing a Mill or Lathe, large home renovation, etc. 
  • Desire to perform hands on work 
  • Experience in any category of 3D printing 
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to maintain physical activity and stand for extended periods
  • Valid driver's license; good driving record 
  • Drug testing required

Desired Experience: 

  • 2+ years of operating laser powder bed fusion machines 
  • Experience running machine tools such as WEDM, Mill, Lathe, etc.  
  • Experience with metal laser powder bed fusion systems and equipment  
  • 2D/3D CAD & CAM experience 
  • Experience with hands on part finishing (deburring, grit blasting, polishing) 
  • Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft project, excel, or an ERP system
